Where do sessions take place?
Sessions can be held online or in person, depending on the student's needs and schedule. In-person individual tutoring sessions take place at a local coffeehouse in the historic Faubourg St. John Neighborhood in New Orleans, LA. Virtual classes and individual sessions take place via Zoom.
When is the best time to start preparing for the ACT test?
The optimal test prep window is when the student is available to dedicate time and energy to prep for their test. Ideally the student has completed most, if not all, of the content in an Algebra 2 course. A typical student should start prepping for 3-6 months prior to their scheduled test date.
How do sessions work?
One-to-one test prep sessions are typically scheduled weekly in 2-hour increments to build the focus and endurance required for testing conditions. Seminars and group classes are offered in advance of a specific test date.
One-to-one math subject tutoring sessions are booked in 1-hour increments, according to each student's needs and goals in their course.
What materials do I need?
Students will receive professional curriculum and access to digital resources after booking. When studying independently or with a tutor, it is best to use official test prep material issued by the test makers. For the math section, it is important to have an approved calculator to use for testing, such as a TI-84+ CE (paper-based testing) or access to Desmos (digital-based testing).
Students booking math subject tutoring sessions should bring their class notes, homework, and study guides to sessions so we can tackle relevant course objectives specific to your class.
Do you guarantee specific score increases?
While I cannot guarantee a specific score, my students typically see an average increase of 3 or more points on the ACT through consistent practice and strategy implementation.
Can I use my 529 Savings Plan pay for tutoring?
Yes, as of 2026, new legislation allows 529 funds to be used for ACT/SAT testing fees and professional tutoring services. To qualify as a "qualified education expense," the tutoring must be provided by a non-relative who is a recognized subject matter expert or licensed educator. As a Certified Teacher/Professional Tutor, my services at Momentum Prep meet these federal criteria. I will provide itemized invoices for every session or package purchased. Speak with your tax advisor or 529 plan administrator to take advantage of this new policy.
